Meet Dr. Clayton McCarl

Dr. Clayton McCarl has been a part of the Greenbelt dental practice for over 35 years. For him, being a dentist is about helping people and working with a great team. He loves making improvements in dental care while serving the community. Dr. Clayton is very proud of the practice he has built with his family and team, and he hopes that all his patients feel at home here.

Dr. Clayton decided to become a dentist because of his family. His father, grandfather, and uncle were all dentists, so he grew up around the profession. He started working as a yard boy, but soon became a dental assistant and helped at the front desk during high school. Today, he is lucky to work with family members and partners who feel like family.

He studied at Western Maryland College and the University of Maryland, College Park, before graduating from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Dr. Clayton has received special training in dental implants and smile enhancements. He is a charter member of the Triple Crown Study Club and a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. He is also a member of the American Dental Association and the Maryland State Dental Association, which helps him stay updated on the latest in dental care.

Outside of work, Dr. Clayton enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa. They have three adult children and wonderful grandchildren. Their daughter Ashley works as one of the hygienists in the practice. In his free time, Dr. Clayton likes to exercise, travel, and cheer for the Maryland Terrapins and the Baltimore Ravens. His life is all about family, community, and caring for others, making him a valued dentist and friend to many.

About Dr. Casey Crafton

Dr. Casey began practicing in 1987. He is a board-certified pediatric dentist with additional certifications in early interceptive pediatric orthodontics and Invisalign®. He is also experienced in providing care for patients with autism and other special needs.

The Path to Dentistry
Dr. Casey is the first person in his family to attend college. He began thinking about becoming a dentist in the eighth grade, and pursuing that goal led him to West Virginia University, followed by a residency at the University of Maryland and post-doctoral work at Johns Hopkins.

Passionate about the care he provides each day, Dr. Casey strives to stay current with new technology and procedures. He is a member of the (G)nathos orthodontic study club and enjoys offering his young patients the best dental and orthodontic care available.

Building Trust

About Dr. Elizabeth Andie Shin DDS

Dr. Shin is the founder and president of BCC Pediatric Dentistry. She is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist with more than 20 years of practice experience. Among other awards and recognitions, Dr. Shin has been selected by her peers as a Washingtonian Top Pediatric Dentist and a Bethesda Magazine Top Pediatric Dentist.

Dr. Shin’s experience spans a diverse range of locations, settings, and organizations. She was Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry for the Advanced Post-Graduate Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Shin practiced pediatric dentistry at a Native American Reservation in Montana. After 911, she joined the Army and served as an active-duty military officer and pediatric dentist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington DC. Dr. Shin was also the first Korean-American female to hold the position as the division head of the Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Dental Clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. These and other positions throughout the years have provided Dr. Shin with invaluable pediatric dentistry experience and unique expertise.

Other fun facts about Dr. Shin:

  • She was born in Busan, Korea, and moved to Brazil when she was two years old.
  • She left Brazil to come to the U.S. and go to the University of Southern California Dental School, where she graduated as her class Salutatorian.
  • She attended USC Advanced Pediatric Dental Program and did her residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She received the best academic and clinical pediatric dental student award at the completion of her program.
  • She was also chosen and nominated as the Chief Pediatric Dental Residency throughout her residency.
  • The language that she speaks best is Portuguese! Everyone and everything in her dreams (even her dog Charlie) speaks Portuguese!
  • Her Korean is just good enough to watch Korean TV dramas with some help from the subtitles. Don’t worry she speaks English too!
  • Her favorite color is pink (have you seen our website!).
  • She loves to play Candy Crush on her phone.

Thrilled to be a part of the Maple Lawn community, Dr. Tina Mahmoudi, is a Board Certified Orthodontist with a passion for creating beautiful and healthy smiles. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) majoring in Biological Sciences and then obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude, from University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD), the first dental college in the world. While attending UMSOD, she was awarded the Harry E. Kelsey Award for Professional Demeanor.

Following graduation from dental school, she continued her quest to become an orthodontist and was chosen as one of the four residents into the highly competitive orthodontic residency program. She spent an additional three years at University of Maryland School of Dentistry to specialize in Orthodontics and obtained her Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in addition to a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Mahmoudi is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Being board certified signifies the highest level of accreditation within a given specialty; it is one step further in a long and intensive orthodontic educational experience to making a lifelong pledge to elevating the quality of patient care. It is a voluntary process and only half of orthodontists choose to pursue it and become board certified.

Dr. Mahmoudi has been in the dental field for over a decade and is also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) , American Dental Association (ADA), Howard County Dental Association (HCDA) Maryland State Society of Orthodontists (MSSO), and Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontists (MASO).
